Citizen Science and Journalism

Citizen Science and Journalism merge public participation in scientific data collection with news reporting, creating a powerful combination where citizens become data sources and storytellers, while journalists help focus research for public relevance, bridging science and society for broader understanding and impact, often using digital tools to share narratives and data from projects like tracking butterflies or monitoring coastlines. This collaboration, known as civic science media or citizen science journalism, allows communities to voice concerns, access scientific insights, and build trust, transforming how science is communicated and understood

At Commonground ReWilding we are looking to set up a Citizen Science and Journalism project for a number of reasons. They are great plaforms in getting the local community working together. The research and the subsequent details that have been unearthed help all of us to see how green and sustainable ouir small local villages are. They also help identify problems and allow for local people to get involved in solving the issues that are found.

To help and support these projects it is important to get the help of like minded institution and university to assist in how you set up research projects and how to manage the data found. Working this way allows for much more solid, validated data to be scruntinised correctly.
